Goulfriends Get-Together: 3 Spirited Cocktails for Halloween

Posted · Add Comment

Every Halloween while kids get their annual stash of candy dressed as their favorite characters like Merida or Spider Man, we plan a goulfriend’s get-together with adult spirits. No costumes needed for this crowd. These Halloween cocktails take center stage. Here are three of our favorites.

As kids we used to love a drink by this name.   The recipe was simple:  grape juice and ginger ale.  Now that we’ve matured, we’ve come up with an adult version.  Please don’t skip the cherry.  It’s the blood clot in the transfusion.

1 oz. Vodka

1 oz. Orange Curaçao

1 oz. Lime Juice

Grape juice

Maraschino cherry

Mix vodka, curaçao and lime juice in a glass with ice.  Top with grape juice and garnish with cherry.

Blood and Sand

Don’t turn down this drink because it has scotch. Barbara is not a scotch drinker and loves this cocktail. It’s believed that it was inspired by the 1922 movie Blood and Sand starring Rudolph Valentino.

¾ oz. Scotch Whiskey

¾ oz. Cherry Heering

¾ oz. Sweet Vermouth

¾ oz. Orange Juice

Orange Slice for garnish

Pour ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice. Strain into cocktail glass and serve with orange slice.

This is Beverly’s all-time favorite rum drink. It supposedly was cooked up by Hollywood restaurateur, Don the Beachcomber, in the late ‘30s. It’s remained a staple of the Tiki Bar culture ever since. With all the rum, it’s a powerhouse, so drink with caution.

2 oz. Light Rum

1 oz. Dark Rum

½ oz. 151 Rum

1 oz. Pineapple Juice

1 oz. Orange Juice

½ oz. Apricot Brandy

1 tsp. Sugar

1 oz. Lime Juice

Pineapple Cube

Maraschino Cherry

Mix all ingredients except the 151 proof rum in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Pour into a tall cocktail glass filled with shaved ice. Pour the 151 rum on top. Garnish with fruit.
