The pairing of strawberries and alcohol is not new. We all know the Strawberry Daiquiri and the Strawberry Margarita. But we like shaking up or stirring something a bit on the wild side – particularly including some herbs. We’re sharing two of our favorites. If fresh strawberries aren’t available, frozen strawberries work well. Just be sure to defrost and drain them to remove the excess water.
5 basil leaves
1 ounce vodka
5 ounces sparkling water
Slice the strawberries thinly and tear the basil leaves into large pieces. Fill tall glass halfway with ice and add berries and basil. Rub the glass rim with a basil leaf. Pour vodka into glass and add sparkling water. Stir and garnish with fresh strawberry.
This cocktail was created by Chef Cedric Tovar of the Peacock Alley at the Waldof Astoria Hotel in New York — where our Mom and Dad had their wedding reception.
2 ounces fresh strawberry juice
2 ounces vodka
3 mint leaves
3 black peppercorns
1 lime zest
5 drops of lime juice
Crush the pepper with mint in a glass. Combine all the ingredients with ice and shake well. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a slice of strawberry.
